Delivered in 2020, Legacy of The Fjords is the newest boat in the Vision class, following Vision of The Fjords and Future of The Fjords. All three boats were designed and built by the renowned Norwegian shipyard Brødrene Aa. Legacy of The Fjords was ordered by The Fjords, a company co-owned by Fjord 1 and Norway’s Best, with the objective of offering sustainable and innovative experiences in Norway’s spectacular natural environment. The Fjords is committed to being at the cutting edge of sustainability, and Legacy of The Fjords truly takes the lead in the development of green tourism in the Norwegian fjords.

First Officer

Eva

Eva, from Romsdal in Western Norway, loves Oslo. As First Officer, Eva is responsible for the weekly exercises carried out on Legacy of The Fjords. Safety is key on board, and Eva explains that there is always a crew of two on the bridge while the vessel is moving. “Legacy is a beautiful boat to work on – she is very easy to manoeuvre, and turns on a sixpence!”

Roy

Roy particularly appreciates Legacy of The Fjords’ well-thought-out design, which benefits both crew and passengers. Roy explains that the Oslofjord teems with boats from the end of May, and it can sometimes be really busy, but that for a ship as easy to manoeuvre as Legacy of The Fjords it is not a problem – you can just enjoy the view!

“The stillness on board is magical. You can hear the waves lapping against the hull – in fact, you can almost hear the fish jumping,” says Kent. “Sometimes we see eagles, dolphins and porpoises, which is just brilliant so close to the city.” Kent enjoys working on board, and highlights in particular the great team spirit. “We get on well, and the passengers notice that.”

Terje

Terje believes that Oslo is most beautiful seen from the fjord. “You get to see the city from a completely different perspective – and our passengers really appreciate that.” He also explains that their guests are fascinated by the cabins on the islands and whether these tiny houses are actually lived in. “About 99 per cent of our guests are from abroad. They really enjoy themselves, and they are always curious about the landmarks and the islands we sail past. Legacy of The Fjords can sail in such shallow waters that we can get right up close.”

Chief Engineer

Lennie

Lennie has worked on all of The Fjords’ Vision-class ships. “I would never go back to working with traditional diesel engines again. I really like the way the technology has progressed from Vision via Future to Legacy of The Fjords – and it has happened so quickly!” On the question of what the future will bring, Lennie believes that hydrogen has much to offer. “It just needs to be a bit more efficient, then things will get really exciting.”
